Sept 18 – 24
What a boring week to try to find some interesting tails to share…
This was a bit of a rough week at work due to data communications circuit issues.
Monday and Tuesday evenings were spent on the phone troubleshooting the circuit issues at work.
I have no recollection what I did Wednesday evening. I’m guessing I cooked another tasty batch of dog food for Sasha and puttered on the computer.
Thursday was my usual run to Douglas. This time I stopped at the hardware store and bought conduit to use to rebuild the first canopy which got destroyed by the wind, then fuel, Walmart for groceries, and the Tavern in Rodeo for dinner.
UPS surprised me Friday by delivering my replacement drone. I didn’t expect it until Monday.
Friday was the potluck as usual. Carolyn, the writer I befriended at the Heritage Days Wild Flower Walk popped in to check out the park. She may be buying an RV and moving into the park. She came during the potluck and was invited to stay and eat with us. We chatted for a bit.
After the potluck a few of us headed over to Animas to take in the local high school football game. Being a small school, they only play 6 players per team on the field at once. The field is smaller and the rules have been modified from the typical 11 player rules. It was a quick game as the local team was undefeated for the season and they mercied the other team 52 – 0 10 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
Upon returning to the trailer I wasn’t ready to go to sleep yet I didn’t feel like being mentally engaged in anything so I fired up the ipad and streamed movies into the wee hours of the morning.
Naturally I woke up earlier than desired so I was light on sleep and generally unmotivated. I had committed to write a monitoring script for work this weekend so I worked on that Saturday. It took me way longer than I expected and than it should have…. My mind was a bit slow due to lack of sleep. Once I was done writing the script, I worked on reorganizing my network gear. It was sitting in a corner on a shelf next to the bed and devices were periodically overheating so I’ve had a fan blowing on them for the week. I assembled a wire shelving rack that I brought from MI .
Pausing my writing to let you know Sasha is saying “Hi”. Ok, more like “pet me damn it”.
Back to Saturday. I moved the network gear to the wire rack. It is still a cabling nightmare but it is better. By the time I finished with that project it was time to leave for a little live musical entertainment at the Portal Cafe. Scott Huckaby was playing his guitar. I ordered some food for dinner and enjoy some alternative guitar music. In addition to him playing there was an artist on stage painting a canvas, the masked full body outfit she was wearing, and the stage back drop behind Scott. She also engaged in a bit of performance art as well. I enjoyed the first hour or so, but after that I started hearing the same riffs over and over mixed in with some other sounds but none-the-less I started getting bored with the music so I headed home after 2.5 hours. Not sure how late he was scheduled to play. I was hoping to chat with him as I’ve been told he is one of my neighbors (at the property), but I didn’t feel like waiting any longer for him to take a break. I approached the artist to see what she had been painting on the canvas as I could not make it out from the back where I had been sitting. It was a dragon. I then took my leave which is just as well cause I fell a sleep within minutes of my head hitting the pillow.
Today, Sunday, I started the day by working with a colleague to troubleshoot some performance issues on a different part of the network than what was worked on Monday and Tuesday. From there I started working on my To-Do list again. Get the drone ready to fly (it had been very windy Friday and Saturday so I didn’t bother getting it out of the box), get the new video camera working on the laptop and get it setup for a mobile operation (to be able to shoot some video at the property before I get infrastructure setup there), get the Ubiquity Security Gateway (AKA firewall) out of the box, setup, and in service. I unboxed and put the drone batteries on the charger. I got the video camera situated. Just waiting on a part from Amazon to enable me to connect it directly to my laptop without a switch in the path. I got the Security Gateway configured. The VPN connection it offers doesn’t seem to work as well as I’d like on my ipad / iphone as they seem to want to split tunnel traffic which is an issue as the subnet I want to access resources on via the VPN is the same subnet 99% of home users and many businesses guest wifi have their networks configured for. Ok. Tech talk over. I didn’t get to the drone. I had the batteries on the charger all day but there was an issue and they didn’t charge… go figure. I just went and checked on them and made some adjustments. I think I have one charging now. I’ll deal with the other two later. Unless something comes up, I’ll be playing with the drone tomorrow night.
Sorry. No new pics. Hopefully next week.
I expect to get the building permit this week and get some quotes on fencing material as that didn’t happen last week as planned.
That sums things up this week.
Wishing Cheryl well on her knee surgery this Thursday.
Night all.
